Silence was what I could add
Buddha sat before the bodhi tree
Near him sat his disciple three
Ananda The boldest and oldest
Always was a man with a quest
Came an old man in his presence
Says he it doesn’t make any sense
Asked does god really exist?
Definitely you’ll see him if u persist
Walked in a young fella and bowed
Is there a god worth being loved?
Hearing this said the great sage
God, just a myth, your disowned image
Entered a man who seemed unsure
Is there a god who can miseries cure?
So that we can get away from all violence
This Buddha answered only with silence
Ananda the trustworthy was confused
Asked the master who looked bemused
Three different answers you gave sage
Your inconsistency is it not an outrage?
“People without thinking can’t accept the lord
The first, an atheist, is now thinking hard on god
Second is now questioning his belief that had him scared
Third was thinking aloud; silence was what I could add”
wow DS,
superb, silence was all I could add... in silence we find serendipty and in that we find our answers
excellent again

Dear Nathan,
i am so happy that you took the time off to write such a detailed note.
i have read the power of now. there is also an inventory there ,which is very useful for personal growth.i have attended body soul workshops of doyans in the area like professor Garg .
what you say is so true. The art of focussing on now to achieve the silence of the mind ,where the warring factions within us stop fighting is the movement towards peace.

Great blog, Sampat Sir!
Your poem stirred me out of my 'silence'. Here's my take on 'silence':
To me, true silence is when our internal dialogue ceases. On any given day, we have this non-stop argument with ourselves. Our ego does all the talking and our 'inner self' meekly listens in silence. 'Oh shit, what I did'!, 'God, why me?', 'If only---', 'What the hell--' , 'Who the hell', 'I should have---', 'I will show who I am' etc. etc - The recording never stops. We keep shouting loud to ourselves.Every decision-making becomes a war within. When there is so much 'noise' within, it is little wonder that there is so much violence outside. The war within spills over and projected towards others. When on those rare moments we manage to cut off the communication between the ego and the real 'me' , that time we experience 'silence' which we call 'peace'. So I guess, we have to start with living in peace with ourselves first. The simplest way is to have a constant focus on 'Now', the present moment, as beautifully explained by Eckhart Tolle in his book, 'The Power of Now'. (Do look out for this book, if you haven't read it).
I am also deeply inspired by Dr. Deepak Chopra's 'Ageless Body, Timeless Mind' which advocates a deep 'body-consciousness' to 'psyche' the body towards perfect health and because of body-mind connection, the mind too gets balanced. So Buddha's message on 'silence' will keep reaching out to us in different packages from different quarters! it is up to us to pay attention telling ourselves 'Sh-hh, QUIET'!
Cheers,
S.V.Nathan.

@ sampath ...
nice poem ... i think it represents the general attitude of people ...
if one considers there is no god ... then god will not appear infront of him ...
if one questions whether god is worth loving ... then he does not know who he himself is ...
if one doubts the presence of god because of voilence in this world ... then one has to understand that voilence spreads from man himself ...
hope my interpretation of your wonderful poem is exact ...
